A Bun in the Oven: Exploring Self-Advocacy in Birth and Parenting
Join the Childbirth Education Association of Metropolitan New York (CEA/MNY) for our 45th anniversary celebration! CEA/MNY in partnership with the 14th Street Y's Parenting, Family, and Early Childhood Center is thrilled to welcome renowned author and sociologist, Barbara Katz Rothman, to discuss self-advocacy in birth and parenting.
Barbara Katz Rothman will share ideas from her new book, A Bun in the Oven, diving into the parallels between the food and birth movements and how they both work to resist industrialization of a family-centered part of life. Our discussion will explore the role that childbirth educators and birth workers can play in advancing self-advocacy among new parents.
We will be collecting donations at this event for Little Essentials, a wonderful organization that provides NYC families in crisis with urgently needed children’s supplies through its network of community partners. Please bring any of the following items with you to donate:
Winter buntings and jackets from newborn through 5T
Stroller buntings
Warm clothing
Receiving blankets
Infant carriers/slings
Diapers
Wipes
New baby toiletries - shampoos, soaps, lotions
